Budapest, Hungary.

I love cities. I love their vibrancy, their display of human achievement, endeavour, culture and history. There are some some wonderful cities in the world, but Budapest is the one which seems to have captured my heart and fascination. I believe that cities have personalities and Budapest has a personality that straight away felt like an old friend. It is youthful, it is old, it is sophisticated, it is vibrant, it is guarded and subtle yet at the same time it is loud and brash and exuberant. I have become completely smitten. The images below depict a small (an oh so small) selection of my explorations of and time with this wonderful old capital.

Sadly, Hungary seems to be turning increasingly right wing, or at least, its government is. The amazing Labyrinth (in photo #7 below) was forcibly closed by riot police in 2011. You can read more here https://goo.gl/uBa9Gu. I am grateful to have been able to visit when I could.

Still do go and visit though. It remains a beautiful, rich and soulful city.
